The following recipes for smoothies and juices can be followed at home using ingredients from your local store or supermarket.
Home-grown fruit and veg always contain the highest levels of nutrients, so are the very best at combatting dry, dull facial hair and boosting your complexion.
If you are unable (or unwilling) to grow your own, then locally sourced produce that has not traveled far is the next best option.
Depending on the purpose of the smoothie, you may choose to either drink it or apply it to your beard.

Smoothies For Beard And Skin Repair
The following smoothie recipes contain enough vitamin C, Iron, folate and zinc for healthy strong beard hair and naturally glowing skin.
Very Berry and Banana Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 large handful of fresh raspberries
- 3 or 4 large ripe strawberries
- 1 ripe banana (sliced)
- 1 cup of almond milk
- 2 or 3 ice cubes
Method: Blend until smooth using a food processor or blender.
Top Tip: If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt.
Almond and Kale Smoothie
Ingredients:
- Half a peeled blood red orange
- 1/3 cup of crushed almonds
- 2 cups of ripped up kale leaves
- 1 ½ cups of coconut water
Method: Add ingredients to a blender. If you prefer a lump-free smoothie, squeeze the oranges in advance and discard the pulp before processing.
Top Tip: Almond milk can be used instead of coconut water if you prefer a more almondy taste.
Orange and Mango Juice
Ingredients:
- 2 peeled oranges, de-seeded
- Half a large mango (peeled)
- 1 cup of coconut water
Method: Add ingredients to a juicer or blender. If you prefer a pulp free juice, squeeze the oranges in advance before blending.
Juice For Facial Hair Growth
The following juices can be drank or applied to the root of your beard to stimulate hair growth.
They contain Procyanidin B2 which has shown to have positive results, especially when applied to hair.
Apple and Mango Juice
Ingredients:
- 2 apples (cored, peeled and chopped)
- Half a mango (peeled)
Method: Place in your juicer until a smooth juice it produced. Scoop the juice with your hands and rinse your beard in it.
Leave in for 20 minutes and rinse out in the shower. Alternatively, you can drink this juice.
Top Tip: Apply heat to your beard while the apple juice works it’s magic. You can do so by wrapping it in a towel. This will help speed up the chemical reaction.
Beard Mask For A Stronger Bush
Amino acids play a critical role in maintaining strong facial hair.
The following beard mask recipe is designed to be applied directly to the beard.
Egg Yolk and Olive Oil Beard Mask
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
Method: Separate the eggs, and retain the yolk while discarding the egg whites. Mix the yolk well with the olive oil.
Using your hands, smooth the mixture through your beard. Focus on the roots and the ends.
Leave in for 20 minutes and rinse with a beard shampoo to remove the residue.
Banana, Apple, Ginger and Spinach Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 banana
- 1 green apple, cored and peeled
- 1 thumb of grated ginger
- 2 cups of spinach (two cups of fresh spinach contains 1.6mg of iron)
- 1 cup coconut water
- 2 ice cubes
Method: Blend together all of the ingredients thoroughly, making sure the spinach leaves are finely chopped up to avoid lumps.
Smoothie For Beard Hydration
Omega 3 is the very best at providing natural hydration to hair. You can create an omega 3 smoothie for drinking or you can use it as a beard mask. It’s totally up to you!
Avocado, Lime and Strawberry Smoothie
Ingredients:
- ½ Avocado
- Squeeze of lime
- 4 tablespoons of Greek or natural yogurt
- 1 cup of almond milk or oat milk
- A large handful of ripe strawberries
Method: Blend the ingredients together in a smoothie until nice and runny. Either drink or use as a beard mask. If using this recipe as a mask, the thickness should make it easy to adjust.

Beer Wash
Ingredients:
- A smooth, dark, full bodied stout such as O’Hara’s Irish Stout or Black Hawk Stout.
Method: Take a big swig, and pour the rest over your beard before having a wash/shower (or in the shower) making sure that the beard is saturated. Leave it in for 10-20 minutes and wash out. Shampoo afterwards.
Smoothies For Brittle Beards
Potassium helps to strengthen the brittle ends of bushy beards. Here’s a potassium-rich recipe to drink or use as a mask.
Banana and Oat Milk Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 Banana
- 2 cups of oat milk
- 2 tablespoons of Green yogurt or natural yogurt
- Optional: 1 teaspoon of porridge oats
Method: Chop up the banana, add all the ingredients to a blender. The porridge oats are optional but will add a beneficial complex carb to the drink, or a soothing element to a mask.
Either drink the smoothie, or apply it onto the beard, leave for 10-20 minutes and rinse.
Battle Grey Beard Hairs
Grey hairs can be tackled using a variety of herbs.
Here’s some herby recipes to try in your next smoothie.
Parsley, Flaxseed, Banana and Frozen Berries Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 banana
- 1 teaspoon of flaxseed oil
- ½ cup of chopped parsley
- 1 cup of frozen berries
- 1 cup of oat milk or almond milk
- 2 tablespoons of natural yogurt
Method: Freeze a small tray of berries. Once frozen, add these, as well as the other chopped ingredients into the blender. Add ice if you want, although the berries will cool down the smoothie making it the perfect drinking temperature.
Top Tip: Parsley had the most nutritional benefit when grown at home. You can plant and grow parsley in your back yard or indoors in natural sunlight.
Rosemary and Blueberry Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of frozen blueberries
- 1 sprig of rosemary
- 2 cups of cows milk or almond milk
- 1 tablespoon of natural yogurt
Method: Freeze a tray of blueberries. Once frozen, add them to the blender with the other ingredients. Remember to only use the rosemary leaves, not the twigs. Blend and drink.
Top Tip: If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add half an avocado or a banana to the recipe.
This way you can also apply some to your beard as a mask.
Rosemary is particularly soothing for dry skin when applied directly to the area. Wash out after 15 minutes.
